Purina Pro Plan Diets and Purina Veterinary Diets
These are two separate ranges of premium quality dog foods and cat foods from Purina, one of the world's largest manufacturers of pet foods. Their top ranges for the routine feeding of dogs and cats are called Purina Pro Plan Dog Food and Purina Pro Plan Cat food. Purina also manufacture a huge range of economy foods under well known names such as Felix, Bonio, Bakers, Beta, Winalot and Go-cat.
They also produce their exclusive Purina Veterinary Diets. These are known as therapeutic diets, which are specially formulated with slightly different nutrient levels to help in the treatment of particular medical conditions. They are intended to be used under veterinary advice as they might not be suitable for all animals as routine diets.
Purina Pro Plan are all dried foods, provided in the form of kibbles (biscuits). The kibbles are specially shaped and textured to help reduce the build up of plaque and tartar on the teeth, which can be a major problem for some dogs and cats. The foods are available as life stage diets: As animals grow up and mature, their nutrient requirements change in a subtle way. This means that the nutrient levels are tailored more precisely to their requirements.
Purina Veterinary Diet?
We offer a range of different veterinary diets for dogs and cats to help with treatment of a range of ailments such as convalescence, urinary infections and obesity management. In terms of the latter, the food contained within the formula is designed to be used as part of a nutritional treatment of extreme body weight by sticking to a low energy diet. There is a high protein to calorie ratio that helps to maintain a lean body mass and muscle plus increases the percentage of fat loss whilst promoting satiety. It also contains high fibre which also promotes satiety whilst reducing the amount of calories consumed and managing fibre responsive colitis. Finally its low fat aspect helps to reduce calorie intake that promotes effective weight loss. For cats there is the Purina Pro Plan Cat Food range that is aimed at kittens, adults, senior cats and special care cases. Most house cats would benefit from the Adult House Cat range of products that comes in different sizes. This is because cats that live in urban areas tend to spend the majority of their time indoors and thus they can be less active that their outdoor equals. The result is a tendency towards weight gain, and certain digestive problems, plus cats also frequently eat hairs that accumulate into hair balls. The benefits of this highly digestible and palatable recipe include controlling the build up of hair balls and essential skin and fur nutrients promoting healthy skin and shiny coats.
Treating Medical Conditions with Dietary Change
Compared to the majority of standard veterinary outlets our selection of pet food diets is considerably more affordable. So if you have a pet that is in need of a specialist diet for either weight loss or a particular medical condition then we can certainly be of assistance. You can easily find the product related to your pet's requirements, for example if your dog is suffering from dermatosis or excessive loss of hair then we have the necessary formula in the form of dry food that is designed to support skin function. For dogs that have been diagnosed with urinary tract infections, there are specialist dietary management methods that can be employed to provide a proper balance of nutrients whilst simultaneously meeting the animal's special dietary needs. Purina vet diets such as these are excellent at targeting a specific illness whilst ensuring your pet is well looked after in terms of a well balanced nutritious diet. The characteristics of this particular diet include urinary acidification, which can help reduce the formation of struvite crystals, increased potassium and high digestibility. It is important that appropriate diagnostic tests are conducted before starting a new dietary regime as in this situation not all cases of Canine Lower Urinary Tract Disease relate to struvite crystals or stones. Most of the products that you see on our site do not require a prescription from a veterinarian clinic, but before proceeding with a change of diet it may be in your interest to visit one first.
A Range of Specialised Creations
There are some excellent products for people to give their dogs if they are suffering from Diabetes Colitis, better known as DCO. Available in three and fourteen kilogram bags the dry food formula provides a complete and balanced meal for the maintenance of adult dogs. The diet characteristics of Purina DCO include increased dietary fibre that prolongs intestinal transit time and control hyperglycemia, an increase in the levels of Omega 3 fatty acids that helps to manage inflammatory conditions and moderate levels of calories, and protein and dietary fats to help maintain the animal's body condition. It is important that the same amount of food is given to your dog at the same time each day and make sure that their change of diet is a gradual process over a period of five to ten days. For those with puppies, we have a range of different products for small and large breeds with options of either chicken and rice or lamb and rice. This is also good for cats that are overweight who are prone to suffering from blood sugar disorders. Kidney stones are also prevented as a result of the balanced levels of essential minerals that help to promote neutral pH levels. As with the veterinary diets for dogs such as the Purina DCO that has been formulated for dogs with Diabetes Colitis, there are a range of special diets for cats too, and the hypoallergenic formula is a good example of these.
